What is Winback TECAR?

TECAR stands for Capacitive and Resistive Electric Transfer. The Winback device passes high-frequency energy through the body's tissues, creating gentle warmth from within rather than on the skin's surface.

It works in two modes. Capacitive mode targets muscles and soft tissue. Resistive mode reaches denser tissue such as tendons, ligaments and joints. Your physiotherapist chooses the mode, frequency and area based on your assessment. Read more about TECAR therapy.

Why we use it

  • Treatment at the right depth. Winback is multifrequency. 300 kHz is used for deeper, denser tissue such as tendons, ligaments and joints; 500 kHz for muscle and fascia; 1000 kHz for more superficial tissue.
  • Three currents in one device. TECAR can be combined with Hi-TENS, a current used for pain management, and Hi-EMS, a current used to activate and strengthen muscles.
  • Deep warmth. The energy creates warmth within the tissue, which is used to ease muscle tension and increase local blood flow.
  • Drug-free and needle-free. A non-invasive option that fits alongside exercise and your home program.
  • Focused treatment time. Your physiotherapist targets the problem area directly, then builds your exercise plan around it.

Most areas feel warm. Over bony or thin areas, such as the fingertips, the sensation can be intense — your physiotherapist adjusts the intensity and you can ask to pause at any time. Results vary between people.

Physiotherapy questions

How is TECAR different from heat packs or ultrasound?

A heat pack warms the skin from the outside. TECAR passes high-frequency energy through the tissues, so the warmth is created within the muscle, tendon or joint being treated.

Is TECAR suitable for everyone?

Not always. It is not used during pregnancy, with a pacemaker, insulin pump, neurostimulator or other implanted electronic device, with cancer, or with bleeding disorders. Your physiotherapist screens for this at your assessment.

Can I claim physiotherapy?

Yes. Physiotherapy can be claimed through private health insurance (HICAPS on site), a Medicare care plan with a GP referral, NDIS, WorkCover and CTP.
